Your Apple Watch Bands Might Not Work With The Next Iteration: Tipster

After the entire Apple Watch ban saga, new information has surfaced on the internet, diverting some attention to the models that will arrive next year. The purported Apple Watch Series 10 could come with a significant change that might disappoint several users, especially those who have purchased several watch bands to pair the device with their outfits.

The Current Mechanism “Takes A Lot Of Space”

In an X post published on December 20, 2023, tipster Kosutami claims that the connectors of the next-generation Apple Watch will be completely redesigned. However, the tipster doesn’t mention why the company would do this. Kosutami just says that current connectors take up a lot of space, so the company will switch to more compact connectors that occupy less space.

Mark Gurman Also Stated The Same In A Report Earlier This Year

Earlier this year, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also reported the same thing, saying that Apple is planning to redesign the Apple Watch band connectors. In the Power On newsletter, he stated that the Apple Watch X will be equipped with the new magnetic band attachment system instead of the lock mechanism on the current models, which include the Apple Watch Series 9, Watch Ultra 2, and Watch SE (2022).

The Magnetic Band Attachment System Could Render Third-Party Apple Watch Bands Useless

As a matter of fact, the current press-and-lock mechanism has been a part of the Apple Watch for years now. This allowed users to use the same bands for subsequent purchases and third-party manufacturers to make several designer or affordable bands for Apple Watches, given that the ones from Apple seem to be a tad too expensive. However, since the Watch Series 10 or X could come with the new band, users’ old bands won’t work with the watch.

The next-generation Apple Watch is also said to feature a Micro-LED display that offers higher brightness levels, increased efficiency, and better durability. Whether all the models will feature the new display technology or just the Watch Ultra 3 will feature is not known.
