Xiaomi’s New Wireless EV Charging Patent Could Change the Way We Charge EVs

11 months ago 55

Xiaomi has recently unveiled an intriguing patent focusing on wireless charging technology for electric vehicles (EVs). Although the patent is in its nascent stages and involves complex concepts beyond current technological boundaries, its potential implications are undeniably fascinating. While it might not materialize into reality in the immediate future, this inventive development marks a significant step forward, possibly paving the way for more advanced and efficient solutions in the realm of EV wireless charging.

Xiaomi EV wireless charging concept

Xiaomi’s latest patent paints an intriguing picture: a compact cargo vehicle equipped with a battery autonomously maneuvers itself towards an EV in need of a charge. Employing autonomous technology, the cargo car seamlessly positions itself and establishes a connection with the EV, initiating the charging process through a substantial coil linking the two vehicles.

However, while the patent offers a glimpse into Xiaomi’s innovative vision, it raises more questions than it answers. The concept appears intricate, especially for charging stationary vehicles, raising doubts about its practicality in comparison to conventional cable charging methods. The notion of bustling parking lots filled with EVs and autonomous cargo vehicles navigating to charge them seems complex and commercially challenging to implement.

As per earlier reports from multiple sources, Xiaomi’s car is anticipated to commence mass production in the first half of 2024. William Lu, in a second-quarter performance discussion, disclosed that Xiaomi’s vehicle successfully concluded its summer testing phase, making significant strides in its development. Xiaomi’s steadfast commitment to initiating mass production in the first half of 2024 remains unaltered.
