Would You Consider The Galaxy Z Fold 6’s Affordable Version? There Might Be One Soon

8 months ago 43

Samsung is among the top foldable manufacturers in the world. However, it might lose to competition in China, where the company’s Fold 5 isn’t performing well. However, the Korean tech giant is working on a more affordable version of its Galaxy Z Fold to tackle the situation.

Entry-Level Galaxy Z Fold 6 Could Cost Around $1,200

According to The Elec’s report, Samsung Electronics plans to create an entry-level version of the proposed Fold 6. Since 2019, the company has updated its foldable lineup every year. In 2023, Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5, the company’s latest foldable.

However, the report suggests that the company can release three foldables in 2024, including the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6, the low-end Z Fold 6, and the Z Flip 6. Samsung Electronics is considering making a more affordable version of the Galaxy Z Fold as the model isn’t doing as well as the Flip series.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 Is Performing Better

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is smaller, provides flagship-grade performance, has a decent camera setup, and, most importantly, isn’t as expensive as the Fold series. Hence, the Z Flip shipments are ahead of the Z Fold. Therefore, the low-end Fold will bridge the gap and give users a taste of what the larger form-factor foldable holds.

The report, however, doesn’t mention anything about the specifications of the more affordable version. However, there’s a good chance this model will feature either a new mid-range or an old flagship chipset. Other areas where the company can cut costs include cameras, high-refresh-rate screens, and batteries.

Samsung Could Reduce The Cost By Compromising On Certain Components

Samsung also plans to make this year’s Z Fold thinner than its predecessors. When folded, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 measures 13.4mm, thicker than the Huawei Mate X3, which measures 11.8mm. Even though the latter is thinner, it houses a larger battery.

With the more affordable Galaxy Z Fold and a thinner Fold 6, Samsung is aiming to capture a larger portion of the Chinese foldable market, where the company stands behind Honor and Huawei. Last month, we reported how Samsung could change the overall form factor of its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Given that Samsung’s competition has foldables in the price range of $1,200 to $1,300, there’s a good chance that the company will aim for the same price range with its affordable Galaxy Z Fold 6 version. More details about the smartphone should surface in the coming days.
