The iPhone 15 launch event, dubbed “Wonderlust,” will take place on September 12, 2023. At the event, the Cupertino-based tech giant should unveil four new iPhones, two new Apple Watches, and, as per the latest information, a new AirPods with USB-C iPhones. If the report is accurate, we might see a new AirPods with a USB-C port.

AirPods With USB-C Port

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple will announce an updated version of the AirPods with a USB-C charging port. However, whether Gurman is talking about the regular AirPods or the AirPods Pro is unclear. Currently, the company sells three models, including the AirPods (2nd Generation), AirPods (3rd Generation), and AirPods Pro (2nd Generation). All models support charging via a Lightning Port.

However, to match with the USB-C port on the iPhone 15, Apple might have to modify all the models. In addition, the journalist did not mention whether the updated version will come with any new features. Previously, we’ve heard rumors of AirPods with fitness-tracking features. Nonetheless, to make its accessories compatible with the USB-C iPhone 15, Apple must transition to other products soon.

Earlier this year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that AirPods (2nd Generation) and AirPods (3rd Generation) are unlikely to get a USB-C port. Regardless, enthusiasts still have to wait till the event.

Apple Might Update The Charging Case

While it’s unlikely to refresh its accessories every year, changing the charging case is more feasible. The latest addition to AirPods, i.e., AirPods Pro (2nd Generation), came out in 2022, three years after the original AirPods Pro (1st Generation) came out. Hence, there’s a good chance that the company will simply replace the Lightning Port on the AirPods’ charging case with a USB-C port so that users can charge their iPhone and AirPods with the same cable.
