Whoa! This flagship smartphone breaks in HALF, puts buyers in dilemma

1 year ago 70

The latest bend test of the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro sees the phone break into half. Know all about it.

Phone makers make big promises when it comes to build quality. Highest grade metal, Gorilla Glass Victus, and what not! Our modern day smartphones are promised to be durable and tough. But are they truly durable? You may get around with a subpar build quality on an affordable phone but on a flagship, you need the best. Surprisingly, the flagship phone from Asus goes through the bend test and it does not fare well.

Bend test expert Zack from the YouTube channel Jerry Rig Everything puts a white ROG Phone 6 Pro through his signature stress tests. At first, it all seemed to go well. The ROG Phone 6 features a Gorilla Glass Victus protection for its display and with the scratch test, the deeper grooves appeared at Mohs level 7 and minor scratching at Level 6. The rest of the durability is sufficient for a flagship, until the bend test.

ROG Phone 6 fails bend test

It is the bend test where the ROG Phone 6 fails catastrophically. In the first try, the ROG Phone 6 breaks apart easily. The frame breaks from the middle but the Gorilla Glass Victus does let the phone split into two. That said, the display cracks enough to the point where it is simply unusable. The rear is simply ruined.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro has a complex structure with vents to help with the extreme performance. In the real world, most smartphones don't have to go through such extreme stress tests and the most pressure it has to withstand is in the pockets. Most importantly, these phones spend a lot of time in cases, which is why they will fare better in the real world.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro is based on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip that promises better performance and boosted efficiency. The phone also has a 6000mAh battery, a 6.7-inch 165Hz AMOLED display with a 10-bit panel, a secondary OLED display on the rear, a 65W wired charging, a 50MP main camera, a dual USB-C port, and a stereo speaker setup.
