Whoa! Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to get selfie camera degrade, could match iPhone 14

Samsung loves to have the highest number of megapixel count on its camera, the largest display, big amount of software features, and a lot more. However, things could change with the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, especially with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Ever since the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung has been using a 40MP resolution sensor for the selfie camera. The higher resolution has always promised sharper looking photos and more. This time though, things are different.

Based on a new report from the GalaxyClub, it is said that Samsung could be degrading front camera sensor on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The Galaxy S23 Ultra could ditch the 40MP resolution camera sensor in favour of a new 12MP sensor. Yes, there is a drop in the megapixel count but Samsung will use a better quality sensor. Hence, despite the drop in resolution, the Galaxy S23 Ultra could take better selfies, probably in low light conditions.

12MP camera sensor for Galaxy S23 Ultra

The 12MP camera sensor will also be a part of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, the predecessors of which used 10MP camera sensors. What remains to be seen is whether these phones will get the autofocus functionality similar to the iPhone 14 series.

The Galaxy S23 series is expected to break cover in February 2023. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will keep a similar design to the Galaxy S22 Ultra but use a higher resolution 200MP image sensor for the main camera. The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus are likely to get new designs for the rear of the phones.

Rumours suggest that Samsung will use a boosted variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, wherein the CPU speed will be higher than the standard version of the chip. This should offer better performance and improved power efficiency gains over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 used on the Galaxy S22 series. The phones are expected to come with Android 13 based One UI 5 out of the box.
