WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Share Screen on Android

1 year ago 59

You can share your screen on WhatsApp soon. Apparently, the Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp is working on a screen-sharing feature already available on WhatsApp Beta for Android that lets you share your screen. Available WhatsApp Beta v2.23.11.19, the update has been marked as compatible and will soon arrive on the public versions of the app.

WhatsApp had been lacking a screen-sharing feature for a long time. Given that the world has shifted to work from home and Zoom kind of things, the feature has already amassed popularity on Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet among others.

With that being said, the feature will be rolled out on Android initially followed by iOS although the dates for both remain a mystery.

The feature works simply by tapping a ‘Screen-Share’ feature when on a video call or group call. Once you tap on the option, Google will prompt you that a screen-sharing instance has been triggered, and only when you tap on ‘Start Now’ that the feature will commence sharing screens with the participants. You can tap on ‘Stop Sharing’ to end the sharing and continue the call as it is.

The feature is useful when sharing items or files that you have on your device and want to showcase to others. It also becomes an important feature in today’s time when people have shifted to WFH work culture post-COVID. However, you need to understand that screen-sharing can be a potential threat given the scams and spam that WhatsApp is littered with. Thus, you need to think before sharing the screen.

Apart from that, the feature won’t work on older versions of Android. It will be obstructed from functioning well on a large group call as well. We will have to wait for the official update to arrive to have a good look at the feature once it’s there.
