If you think about WhatsApp and how limited formatting options it has, think again. WhatsApp has just introduced a series of formatting options that will allow users to communicate with each other effectively. Rolling out today as we speak, WhatsApp chats now support bullets, numbered lists, bold, italic, strikethrough, block quotes, and more.
It’s not like WhatsApp had no formatting options. You could still highlight texts by making them bold, strikethrough, monospace, or italic, however, the new formatting options offer a diverse avenue to charter across Android, Mac, Web, and iOS platforms and yes, it is available across individual chats, group chats and channels as well.
Let’s check out a handy guide on how you can use all the formatting options on WhatsApp with ease.
Bulleted Lists: It requires no introduction. Now you can create a bullet list of items or actions to do in a message instead of naming each item as 1, 2, 3, and beyond. All you have to do is add the “-” symbol (without the quotation marks), hit space, and bingo, the bullets are ready. Every time you press enter to go on a new line, a new bullet appears allowing you to complete the list. Press enter twice and you can exit the list mode.
Numbered Lists: This particular list works the same as bulleted lists but instead of dots, you get a numbered list from 1 to infinity (just saying). Start with “1.” without quotation marks, press space and you have a list.
Block Quotes: Now you can add a block or quotation without a chat message to individuals or groups with the block quotes. Simply add the “>” symbol before typing the block quote, hit space, and bingo. Hit enter to discontinue the block and that’s super easy to use.
Inline Code: Finally, the last to be added in the new formatting options on WhatsApp is the inline code. It is useful for coders as it highlights a specific part of the text although the use cases may differ. You can use inline code to emphasize something.
Lastly, we have ‘Bold’, ‘Italics’, ‘Strikethrough’, and ‘Monospace’ that are already available at your disposal.
