WhatsApp Call Logs May Soon Appear in Phone Dialer App

WhatsApp logs in Phone app

WhatsApp and Google seem to be working together to integrate WhatsApp call logs into the Phone app. For years now, WhatsApp call logs have been separate from VoLTE or regular phone calls. Although this might be convenient for some users, others would want all their call logs in the Phone app, regardless of it being on WhatsApp, Google Meet, or any other app.

A user on X shared that their WhatsApp call logs are now showing up on the Phone app. iOS has been doing this since forever, with many Android users seeking the feature on their devices while others don’t like it.

Aside from being able to see all your call logs in one place, you can tap on them to instantly initiate a callback. Right now, the only way to do this is by opening the WhatsApp app and going to the Calls tab.

The user also stated that he is running the Beta version of both WhatsApp and the Phone app on his Google Pixel 6a. The exact versions of the apps are 124.0.608164421-publicbeta and 2.24.6.6, respectively for the Phone app and WhatsApp.

Another user on X has reported sporadically seeing WhatsApp call logs in the Phone app since December 2023, without having installed any beta versions of WhatsApp or the Phone app. According to this user, the feature appears occasionally and then disappears. This suggests that WhatsApp and Google might have been conducting limited tests or intermittent rollouts of the integration before its broader availability.

If you’re interested in trying out the feature on your device, you’ll need to join the beta programs for both WhatsApp and the Phone app. This will allow you to access the beta versions of the apps, where the new integration is being tested.

There are already mixed opinions on this change. While some users appreciate the convenience of having all call logs in one place, many prefer to keep their WhatsApp call logs separate. Nevertheless, we can expect the feature to expand to other messaging/social apps that support native calling like Skype, Viber, X, Google Meet, and Telegram.

The feature is still in its beta phase, which could explain why there hasn’t been an official announcement or confirmation from either WhatsApp or Google yet. Once the feature is ready for public release, we can expect to see an announcement from one of the companies.
