Welcome to our 50th-week recap of 2022, only two more to go!

This week, Oppo launched the Find N2 and N2 Flip. The Find N2 is an evolution of the Find N with a thinner and lighter body, new hinge, a better camera system, and a much better display among other things. The Find N2 has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, a faster-charging battery (67W), and a 120Hz cover screen. The Find N2 will be available in China for now with no word on global availability.

What is going global is Oppo's Find N2 Flip, which is a whole new device category for Oppo. It has a fairly big 3.62-inch cover display (a 60Hz OLED panel, 382 x 720px), and a 6.8-inch 120Hz internal display, while processing is handled by the Dimensity 9000+. The camera setup is a 50MP main module (same IMX890 1/1.56” sensor) and an 8MP ultrawide unit (112°, IMX355). The MariSilicon X chip is on board to handle processing. The Oppo Find N2 Flip is slated for a global release, the full details will be made available later on.

Xiaomi announced MIUI 14, the latest Android 13-based OS for Xiaomi devices. Xiaomi says this is the most optimized and streamlined MIUI to date and it starts with Project Razor. The team behind MIUI 14 updated the system architecture on the Android Kernel level with CPU, GPU, and memory resource scheduling, lighter system firmware size, and decreased memory usage. Xiaomi claims MIUI 14 runs 60% smoother compared to its predecessor on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro will be the first devices to launch with MIUI 14 on December 14. Xiaomi also shared its official update schedule for China which includes 11 devices in January, and another four in April.

Motorola unveiled the Moto X40 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a 165Hz OLED display, IP68 water resistance, a 4,600mAh battery with 125W charging, and 15W wireless charging. The X40 is equipped with a 50MP sensor (1/1.56”) with OIS and 1.0µm pixels. Next to the main cam is an ultrawide-angle lens (117°) with a 50MP sensor (1.3µm pixels). This one has autofocus, so it can shoot macro images from 2.5cm/1”. Also on board is a 2x portrait camera with a 12MP sensor (IMX663, 1.22µm pixels). For selfies, there is a 60MP selfie camera with a centered punch hole. The Motorola Moto X40 is on pre-order in China right now, shipping is set to begin on December 22.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra was detailed through a TENAA listing. The phone measures 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9mm and weighs 233g - the same dimensions as the outgoing S22 Ultra. The battery is also the same at 5,000mAh. The cameras weren't listed, so we got no confirmation on the alleged new 200MP sensor (1/1.3”, 0.6µm, 12MP default resolution). The main camera will reportedly finally make the jump to 8K @ 30fps video (previous models stick to a cinematic 24fps).

The Samsung Unpacked event will take place in the first week of February, according to inside info, the launch is expected to be a couple of weeks later in late February.
