Week 27 in review: Pixel 8 Pro hands-on leak, iPhone 15 series battery rumors, Red Magic 8S Pro and Pro+ debut

The first week of July brought plenty of interesting stories and it's not time to recap and make sure you haven't missed any of them.

A Google Pixel 8 Pro prototype appeared in a set of hands-on images way ahead of its announcement. The device appears to have a flat screen with a centered punch hole cutout and three cameras on the back – an updated 50 MP main unit with a Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor, a 64 MP Sony IMX787 ultrawide module, and the 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The device also has the rumored infrared thermometer on the side of the visor next to the LED flash.

The other big news of the week concerns the rumored battery capacities for the upcoming iPhone 15 series. The regular iPhone 15 is expected to get a bump up to a 3,877 mAh cell, the 15 Plus is expected to carry a 4,912 mAh capacity which would be the largest battery cell on an iPhone to date. The iPhone 15 Pro is expected to go with a 3,650 mAh capacity cell while the 15 Pro Max should come in with a 4,852 mAh battery.

Red Magic 8s Pro and Pro+ are now official with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 chipsets featuring an overclocked prime core (3.36GHz) and faster GPU clock speeds (719MHz) which is in line with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset. The Pro+ variant now comes with up to 24GB RAM and 1TB of storage for CNY 7,499 ($1,035/€950/₹85,000). Red Magic 8s Pro starts at CNY 4,000 ($550/€510/₹45,500) for the 8/128GB trim.

We also saw the debut of the Red Magic tablet with a 12.1-inch IPS LCD (144Hz), Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a 10,000 mAh battery with 80W charging. Red Magic tablet starts at CNY 3,899 ($538) for the 12/256GB trim and goes up to CNY 4,599 ($635) for the 16/512GB version.

OnePlus Nord 3 is now official with Dimensity 9000 SoC, a better screen and bigger battery starting at €499. We also got the India-exclusive Nord CE3 which starts at INR 26,999 and the Nord Buds 2r which are priced at INR 2,199.

The Nothing Phone (2) design was officially confirmed and we got a video walkthrough from MKBHD detailing the updated Glyph Interface. Xiaomi 14 early specs emerged suggesting the devices will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset 4,680 mAh battery cell on the Xiaomi 14 (90W wired charging) and a 5,000 mAh cell on the 14 Pro (120W wired charging). Xiaomi also confirmed its Mix Fold 3 is launching in August.

Samsung pfficially confirmed it will hold its Unpacked event on July 26 in Seoul, South Korea where we’ll see the debuts of the Galaxy Z Fold5, Z Flip5 and the Galaxy Watch6 series. The Galaxy S21 FE is also confirmed to re-launch in India with a Snapdragon 888 chipset.
