Volkswagen Unveils ID. GTI Concept at IAA 2023, Offering a Glimpse of the All-Electric Hot Hatch Arriving in 2027

Volkswagen is setting the stage for the next era of high-performance GTI models with the unveiling of the ID. GTI Concept. In a bold move towards electrification, Volkswagen’s iconic GTI badge is evolving into the realm of all-electric power. The production-ready version of this groundbreaking concept is slated to make its debut in 2026, with production scheduled to commence in 2027. While drawing inspiration from the ID.2all concept, the ID. GTI Concept distinguishes itself with carefully crafted design modifications, geared towards instilling a heightened sense of sportiness.

While maintaining its core proportions inherited from the ID.2all, the ID. GTI Concept introduces a series of assertive design enhancements. At the front, it showcases a revised bumper with a more prominent air dam and an enlarged splitter, exuding a decidedly more aggressive demeanor. Along the sides, the concept embraces sportier aesthetics with enhanced side sills and wheel arch extensions, further emphasizing its performance pedigree. Turning to the rear, a roof-mounted spoiler and a striking diffuser on the bumper underscore the model’s sporty character.

Staying true to the GTI legacy, the concept proudly sports signature red accents. These crimson highlights adorn the enclosed grille, lower sections of the bumper, and the GTI badges prominently displayed on the fenders. Additionally, a GTI decal adorns the tailgate at the rear, leaving no doubt about the model’s heritage and intentions.

In terms of dimensions, the ID. GTI maintains the same 2,600 mm wheelbase as the ID.2all concept, but it distinguishes itself by being 54 mm longer, 28 mm wider, and 31 mm lower than its counterpart.

Shifting our focus to the interior, the overall design aligns with the ID.2all’s minimalist approach. It features a clean and uncluttered layout, complete with a three-spoke steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and a prominent 12.9-inch central touchscreen. Volkswagen has drawn inspiration from the original GTI, incorporating elements like a golf-ball-like finish around the drive mode selector knob on the center console. Additionally, a subtle yet nostalgic touch is the illuminated 12 o’clock marker on the steering wheel. To enhance the driving experience, the GTI also features a head-up display with specially designed graphics, providing crucial information right within the driver’s line of sight.

To offer a glimpse of its potential, the ID.2all concept generated 223 bhp and achieved a sprint time from 0 to 100 kmph in under 7 seconds.
