Volkswagen’s 2024 Tiguan Makes Its Debut: New Look, Upgraded Touchscreen, and Hybrid Engine

1 year ago 61

The latest Volkswagen Tiguan has returned to its roots, featuring a design reminiscent of the original first-generation model. In contrast to the sharp chiseled lines that characterized the second-generation model, the Tiguan has embraced a more curvaceous aesthetic once again. This design shift also draws parallels to its larger sibling, the Touareg.

2024 Volkswagen Tiguan Upgraded Design

Freshly released images provide a comprehensive look at the third-generation Tiguan in all its splendor. While there’s a subtle influence of the ID.7 eSUV’s design, it doesn’t dominate the overall aesthetic. The front fascia features a black horizontal applique that elegantly connects both headlights, mirroring a similar design element at the rear, enveloping the connected LED tail lights, which sport a smoked effect. Notably, the headlights receive Bi-LED projector treatment with distinct chambers for enhanced illumination.

The grill features three horizontal chrome slats and boasts a generously sized opening for radiator air intake. The glass area and side body panels adopt a sleek, swooping design, while the wheels add a touch of elegance. A subtle roof spoiler and a shark-fin antenna contribute to the vehicle’s aesthetic.

2024 Volkswagen Tiguan Features

Inside, the layout mirrors Volkswagen’s ID range, with a prominent large infotainment screen positioned at the center, housing various vehicle functions, including climate control. Complementing this is a fully digital instrument screen that exudes a modern vibe in line with Volkswagen’s brand identity. This revamped interior layout is a welcome change, especially considering the dated appearance of its predecessor. The center console features a rotary drive mode selector with an integrated display, adding to the overall functionality and aesthetics.

The Tiguan is built upon Volkswagen’s cutting-edge MQB EVO platform, featuring a wheelbase of 2,681 mm. This translates into an additional 10 mm of rear legroom and a substantial 33 liters of added boot space, resulting in a total capacity of 648 liters compared to its predecessor.

2024 Volkswagen Tiguan Powertrain

In terms of powertrain options, the Tiguan offers a wide array of choices, including multiple petrol, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), and diesel options. Drivers can also choose between 2WD and 4WD configurations. Among the PHEV options, there are two variants equipped with a 19.7 kWh battery, promising an impressive electric-only range of up to 100 kilometers.

Additionally, DC charging is available, with a maximum capacity of 50 kW for rapid charging. Both PHEV models are powered by a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine paired with an 8-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), delivering a combined power output of either 210 bhp or 268 bhp.

The Tiguan offers a 2.0L diesel (129 bhp) and two 1.5L petrol (148 bhp) engines with a 48V mild hybrid setup. These are front-wheel drive with a 7-speed DCT. For 4WD, there’s the option of the VW family’s 2.0L EA888 petrol engine with either 201 bhp or 268 bhp.
