Vivo X90 series debuts Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Dimensity 9200 flagship chips

Vivo X90 series becomes the first smartphone series to use the 2023 flagship chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek.

Vivo X90 series debuts in China and becomes the first smartphone series to make use of the new 4nm flagship chipset from Qualcomm and MediaTek. The X90 series launches with three models this time – a Vivo X90 and Vivo X90 Pro using the Dimensity 9200 chip, and the Vivo X90 Pro+ is using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. These phones have also new cameras and a refreshed design to keep things interesting.

The Vivo X90 starts at CNY 3,699 (approximately Rs. 42,000) for the base 8/128GB variant. The Vivo X90 Pro starts at CNY 4,999 (approximately Rs. 57,000) for the base version with 8GB RAM +256GB storage. The top-tier Vivo X90 Pro+ starts at CNY 6,499 (approximately Rs. 74,000) for the base variant with 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. Vivo is yet to announce any plans for bringing the phone to India.

Vivo X90 series at a glance

Other than the new Dimensity 9200 chip and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips, the Vivo X90 series devices are offering top-grade features. The X90 and X90 Pro feature the same 6.78-inch Quad HD+ 120Hz Curved AMOLED displays with up to 1300 nits of peak brightness. The cameras is where things see big changes. The Vivo X90 gets the 50MP Sony IMX866 sensor for the main camera, a 12MP ultrawide Sony IMX663 camera and a 12MP telephoto purposes with 2x optical zoom.

The Vivo X90 Pro uses the new 1-inch Sony IMX989 main camera sensor, a new 12MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP portrait camera with 2x optical zoom. The Vivo V2 ISP chip is used in these two handsets. Both phones have sub-5000mAh batteries and they rely on 120W wired charging.

The Vivo X90 Pro+ brings a couple of higher grade features other than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The display is similar at 6.7-inches but it can go up to 1800 nits of peak brightness. The main camera uses a 50MP Sony IMX989 1-inch sensor, another 50MP sensor for 2x zoom, a 64MP 3.5x optical zoom camera, and a 48MP ultrawide camera. There is a 32MP selfie camera.

The phone also features a UFS 4.0 storage that promise faster app load speeds. The phone is also rated IP68 water and dust resistance. The Vivo X90 Pro+ also features a 4700mAh battery with support for a slower 80W fast charging and 50W wireless charging.
