Tinder App Roundup: Usage, Features, Subscription Plans, How to Use & More

1 year ago 58

Dating is not what it used to be in the 2000s. Over the past decades, online dating has changed the way one meets his/her companion. One no longer needs to approach people in public places and get rejected in the face. They can now build their virtual profile with relevant details and pictures and choose who can be good for them as per their preferences. If they find someone, they can just message them or ping them and wait for their response.

Online Dating was revolutionized when the Tinder App came into play. Tinder added a gesture called swipe to help you decide whom you are interested in. Though it might seem a simple task there’s a lot that goes behind swiping right or left. To understand what Tinder is and what it does, dive in.

What is Tinder?

Founded back in 2012, Tinder is an online dating site/app that matches singles in your area and around the world virtually. When it was launched, it was a one-of-a-kind app but later on, many similar dating apps came up like OkCupid, Bumble, etc.

In general Tinder’s functions are pretty much simple- you have to swipe to indicate who you are most interested in. Anyone can sign up for free but for more features, you will need a subscription. Tinder works on Android as well as iOS devices. Tinder is available in 21 countries across the world.

How Does Tinder Work?

Tinder might be frowned upon by those who still prefer the traditional way of meeting and dating but in today’s times, it offers a gateway to relationships and even marriage for this tech-savvy generation.

Tinder upends traditional dating culture which needed one to go out and interact with strangers in physical spaces. It brings the entire dating pool to your device so you can choose if you like someone sitting at home.

Earlier Tinder used to apply an Elo rating system to match users, essentially ranking people by a user-driven attractiveness algorithm under which the more people who liked and swiped right the higher they were ranked. It created dating bubbles and defeated the purpose so Tinder abandoned this within a few years.

In 2019 Tinder revealed that their algorithm is designed to be open. They don’t rely on Elo and prioritize users who are most active and match one with others who are active at the same time. It doesn’t consider race or income but details you enter like location, gender, age, etc.
