This iPhone is now on Apple's Vintage list! Do you have it?

1 year ago 80

If you are still using iPhone 6, then you should know that it has now been put on the “Vintage” list by Apple. Here’s why.

The iPhone 6, which was launched back in 2014 has now been declared a 'Vintage' product by Apple. What does it mean? In Apple's definition, "products are considered vintage when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago." When iPhone 7 was released in 2016, Apple had already stopped the sales of its predecessor iPhone 6. However, it still gets security patches and technical support from Apple, but not for much longer now.

The iPhone 6 will remain one of the special iPhones for Apple fans. And for a very good reason too. This was the first time that Apple introduced the larger "Plus" variant in an iPhone series. Not just that, it also featured an all-new design with curved edges which replaced the earlier flat-edged design of the iPhone 4.

Moreover, along with the launch of the iPhone 6, Apple had also introduced NFC technology. NFC, which stands for Near Field Communications, was one of the most exciting additions to the iPhone 6, which is a wireless communication technology that works in its mobile wallet service called Apple Pay,

There are more vintage iPhones

Not just the iPhone 6, but Apple had already added the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus as vintage iPhones back in February 2022. However, there are some other vintage iPhone models, here's the list:

  • iPhone 4 (8GB)
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5C
  • iPhone 5S
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 6s (32GB)
  • iPhone 6s Plus (32GB)

Just like the list Vintage iPhones, Apple also has a list of obsolete products, which “are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago. Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products, with the sole exception of Mac notebooks that are eligible for an additional battery-only repair period.” This obsolete iPhone list includes - iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S.
