This important feature set to return with the iPhone 14 Pro

The battery percentage indicator has been long missing on iPhones but Apple could reintroduce it with the iPhone 14 Pro.

The battery percentage option was introduced with the iPhone 3GS but was removed with the launch of the iPhone X back in 2017, which favoured the battery indicator. The battery percentage indicator was scrapped due to the notch taking up most of the space. Instead, Apple introduced a battery icon which displayed how much battery you had left with the help of a black and white indicator. Although the battery icon does the job, it does not provide the same battery accuracy as the percentage icon.

Apple has been testing a new battery percentage indicator in the iOS 16 Beta 5. The new icon shows the battery percentage inside the battery bar. The battery percentage option has to be manually switched on in the Battery section in Settings. However, even this has left users disappointed as the percentage is only displayed with a white colour font. Users who have applied light-coloured wallpapers have been unable to read the percentage. This might soon change with the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro.

Classic battery percentage icon in the iPhone 14 Pro

According to a GSM Arena, the new punch hole and pill—shaped dual notch will allow Apple to fit in more information in the status bar. Apple is getting rid of the notch in the Pro models of the iPhone 14 series giving more real estate for icons in the status bar.

This new notch design will allow Apple to bring back the classic battery percentage indicator, having the battery percentage and battery icon side-by-side. MacRumours shared a few renders of the iPhone 14 Pro having the classic style battery percentage indicator on the status bar of the iPhone 14 Pro.

As of now, this “old-style” battery percentage indicator has only been rumoured to return on the iPhone 14 Pro. The standard iPhone 14 has Apple's traditional notch which might pose the same issue which caused the company to remove the battery percentage icon from the iPhone X in the first place.
