Snapdragon Seamless To Improve Cross-Device Connectivity: Qualcomm

At the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm announced a cross-platform solution for facilitating a multi-device experience called the Snapdragon Seamless. For developing the solution, the company has collaborated with leading players, including Android, Microsoft, Asus, Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Oppo, as these companies have a variety of smart home appliances or other gadgets that could use better compatibility with others.

What Is Snapdragon Seamless?

Per the official press release, Snapdragon Seamless is a technology that enables seamless communication between multiple devices using different operating systems. Seamless will allow Android, Windows, and other Snapdragon-powered devices to “discover each other and share information to work as one integrated system.”

How Does It Benefit Users With Different Electronics Devices?

Qualcomm mentions that each US household now has about 21 different digital devices (citing Deloitte’s 2023 Connected Consumer survey). However, these devices cannot recognize each other and work together since they are developed by different manufacturers using different operating systems. This leads to reduced consumer choice and creates a lock-in where people might feel stuck with one manufacturer so that their devices can work together.

However, Snapdragon Seamless solves this problem, enabling devices like mice and keyboards to work across PCs, phones, and tablets. It can also allow files and windows to be dragged and dropped across different devices (including computers, tablets, and smartphones). Further, the company also mentions that wireless earbuds developed using Seamless can switch intelligently based on the priority of an audio source, such as during incoming calls.

Snapdragon Seamless To Be Available In Devices This Year

\Regarding availability, Qualcomm says that Snapdragon Seamless is incorporated into the company’s latest mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, Snapdragon X Elite, and other wearable/hearable platforms. Further, popular manufacturers such as Microsoft, Android, Xiaomi, Asus, Honor, and Lenovo have joined hands with the company, implying that they will produce products using the Seamless technology starting as early as this year.
