Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 to rely on TSMC; Promises outstanding performance

The water foundry field is taking a turn into a fierce battle between industry-leading TSMC and Samsung. We are still a year away from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC but information leaks about it have already begun to appear, hinting at impressive upgrades in terms of performance and reduced power efficiency.

According to the tipster @Tech_Reve, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is en-route to debut next year (we are a year away from the launch) and it will be based on TSMC’s N3E 3nm process.

Seems like Qualcomm doesn’t want to compromise on the performance and thus, it will be using TSMC’s custom Oryon CPU cores rather than going for a new set of cores. This will allow Qualcomm to achieve better performance and power power consumption all without falling for Samsung’s unreliable yields that has been a major concern.

Qualcomm might opt for dual-chip sourcing strategy

Qualcomm was reportedly planning to use a dual chip sourcing strategy that would’ve included foundries from TSMC and Samsung, however, the plan has been reportedly pushed back to 2025. For now, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC will be based on TSMC’s N3E 3nm process. There’s an exception though for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for Galaxy as it will be built on Samsung’s 3nm 3GAP process per a Taiwanese news outlet.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 were significantly different in terms of performance as the former was made by Samsung and suffered lower efficiency and throttling issues compared to the latter processed on TSMC.

Of course, switching to a dual chip sourcing strategy will raise questions citing Samsung’s unreliable yield and the ever-concerning performance issues with its in-house Exynos line of chipsets. But hey, we will have to wait for more updates on this one.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC will bring impressive performance on-board

Qualcomm is easily surpassing Apple.

As aforementioned, we are almost a year away from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 launch, and yet, leaks are coming from all over. Tipster @Tech_Reve pointed out that the upcoming SD4Gen1 scored 10,000 points on Geekbench, and the Adreno 830 GPU onboard uses the same power as SD8Gen2 while promising excellent performance gains. On top of that, the SoC is reportedly consuming just 8W of power. For comparison, SD8 Gen 2 has an average power consumption of 4.9W while SD8 Gen 3 draws 6.27W.
