Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Benchmark Scores Suggest A Huge Leap In Performance

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 at the company’s annual summit earlier this week. As we expected, the chipset offers quite a lot of improvements over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC released in 2022. The most significant upgrade, however, comes in the performance department, where the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm sets new benchmarks.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Specifications

Before diving into the performance scores across several testing platforms, here are a few key details that one should know. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC is based on TSMC’s second-generation 4nm fabrication technology. It features a Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.3GHz, three A720 cores at 3.2GHz, two A720 cores at 3.0GHz, and two A520 cores at 2.3 GHz. In day-to-day usage, the varied core cluster should create a balance between performance and efficiency.

In terms of CPU, the company promises 30 percent overall performance and 20 percent overall power efficiency improvements. The Adreno GPU offers up to 25 percent and 25 percent efficiency upgrades. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 offers 98 percent better AI performance and 40 percent better performance per watt than its predecessor. Last but not least, the Snapdragon X75 5G modem on the chipset supports up to 10Gbps peak download speeds on 5G networks.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Benchmarks

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC scores about 2,320/7,430 points in the single/multi-core Geekbench test. On Antutu, the processor hits about 2.13 million points on the first run. For those catching up, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 released last year peaks at 1,993/5,328 points in the single/multi-core Geekbench test. On Antutu, the chipset scores about 1.5 million points.

The mah suggests a 16 percent improvement in the single-core score and a whopping 39 percent betterment in the multi-core Geekbench score. The latest SoC’s Antutu score also indicates a 42 percent better performance. Comparing the popular benchmark scores, it is clear that the chipset packs a lot of extra headroom for those needing raw performance for gaming, editing, or other demanding workflows.

However, it is important to mention that benchmark scores aren’t a direct indicator of a device’s performance. Instead, they measure a chipset’s peak performance. In day-to-day usage, only a fraction of users who get a phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be able to push it to that extent.
