While the Apple event has launched four new models of the iPhone 14 series, shockingly, it has also killed off several recent models like the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 12 Mini among others. Know the full list and reason.

The Apple event caught the eyes of global fans and tech enthusiasts as the company launched the iPhone 14 series. The new lineup of Apple smartphones included the iPhone 14 base model, the brand new iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. And while there is an excitement for the new products, Apple has quietly done something shocking! It has killed off multiple recent iPhone models like iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Pro and more. Some of these models were among the best performing smartphones by the company. These models will not be manufactured anymore and will not be available to buy at the Apple Store. Know the entire killing spree done by Apple and the reason behind it.

Apple kills off popular iPhone models

Apple has discontinued a total of three smartphones and two of them belong to the iPhone 13 family. The full list includes iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. This might seem surprising given the iPhones were just one year old and are still among the top performing smartphones in the market, yet it is not unusual at all. Every year, after launching the new iPhone series, it discontinues the Pro models of the previous generation. But the question is why?

Discontinuation essentially means the iPhone models will no longer be manufactured. Apple Stores, either physical or digital, will not be selling these devices. The stock units in possession of authorized Apple distributors will still be sold but once the stock runs out, they will not be available to purchase.

Apple does this for the Pro models because once a newer model comes in, older models depreciate and their price goes down. However, considering the premium features and specifications on the Pro models, a price cut would not be feasible for the company. Further, it would also dampen the sales of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max sales.

But what about the iPhone 12 Mini? It appears the decision to take it off the market was based on the company's decision to discontinue the entire model. For now, iPhone 13 Mini continues to be available but it is not clear for how long.

However, it is not clear how those who actually own any of these iPhones will be affected if they want to trade-in or sell-off their phones. Will their value be decreased in the market and they will not get as much money as they otherwise would? It is something that would require clarity.
