On Wednesday, Samsung India showcased a lineup of Bespoke home appliances powered by AI at Samsung BKC at the Jio World Plaza. With inbuilt Wi-Fi, internal cameras, and AI chips, the home appliances provide decent home management with easy-to-control functions through the Samsung SmartThings app. The company believes that integrating AI helps increase the longevity and sustainability of home appliances. For instance, the appliances can notify users about due to water filter replacement or air conditioners requiring a service.

AI-Enabled Home Appliances To Reduce Energy Consumption

On the launch, JB Park, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, said that Bespoke AI is the next big innovation in home appliances. It will ensure smarter living for Indian homes and reduce energy consumption, contributing to a greener planet. “With our Bespoke AI-powered home appliances, consumers will be able to customize their choices, get easy controls for elders and kids, and get a seamless diagnosis for their home appliances,” adds Park. The company’s Bespoke appliances in India include refrigerators, air conditioners, microwaves, and washing machines, now powered by AI-based features.

How Does Bespoke AI Help Or Change Samsung’s Lineup Of Home Appliances?

Refrigerators Can Recognize Food Items Through AI Vision Cameras

In the official press release, Samsung mentions how its appliances utilize AI’s power. For instance, the new refrigerator lineup comes with an AI vision camera that helps automatically recognize up to 33 food items. The number of food items recognizable with the appliance can increase as users store more items. Further, selected models, through their screens, can suggest to users what to cook for lunch or dinner, depending on the currently stored items. With a smart food management system, the appliance can also figure out when a specific food item is about to expire.

Air Conditioners To Pick Up Users’ Location To Cool The Place Right In Time

When it comes to air conditioners, the Welcome Cooling function helps users cool their home remotely using the Samsung SmartThings app. However, a new feature allows users to set commands based on a range of locations. So, whenever users are, say, one or two kilometers away from their home (and it takes them about five to 10 minutes to reach their place), the SmartThiings app, through the AI Geo fencing feature, picks up their location and cools their place right in time for their arrival. Regarding microwaves, the Bespoke AI helps automatically customize recipes to their low-fat version.

Washing Machines To Customize Wash Recipes Based On The Available Resources

Another home appliance category that has received many AI-based features is washing machines. With AI Control, the company’s new Front Load Washing Machine learns laundry routines over time and evolves its wash cycle to suit users’ needs. It automatically defaults to the most used washing setting unless users change it manually. Further, the AI Wash feature senses the load’s weight, the fabric of clothes, the water level, and the detergent level to create a custom wash recipe.

AI Energy Mode To Help Users Save Energy Consumption

A common feature that will be available across the fleet of Samsung home appliances is SmartThings Energy. Through this section of the app, users can monitor and control the amount of energy consumed by their connected smart appliances. The AI Energy Mode can help users save up to 10 percent of energy in refrigerators, up to 20 percent in air conditioners, and up to 70 percent in washing machines. Further, a five-star rated Samsung refrigerator with the AI Energy Mode can reduce the overall carbon emission by 395kg a year. The company has also promised regular software updates to unlock the latest features via Smart Forward.
