Just a day after launching Galaxy Tab S9 FE, Galaxy S23 FE, and Galaxy Buds FE, the South Korean giant didn’t take a moment before debuting its redesigned smart tracker dubbed the Galaxy SmartTag 2 with up to 700 days of battery backup on its power saving mode. The tracker is made to keep your belongings safe and secure.

Introducing Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 – the next-gen smart tracker

Samsung’s original smart tracker aka SmartTag took the world by storm allowing you to track your belongings including your car keys, luggage, bikes, etc. SmartTag 2 builds on the same principle but brings a lot to the table and enhancements over the predecessors promising an enjoyable user experience

The new Lost Mode lets you feed your contact details on the SmartTag 2 that others can scan and who it belongs to. SmartThings app lets you do that along with a redesigned user interface. If lost, anything can be scanned via NFC. Once you find your lost tracker, disabling that mode removes that message automatically.

We have a CR2032 user-replaceable battery built-in. A new Power Saving Mode gives you a battery backup of up to 700 days. For the unversed, it is almost twice what the original SmartTag brought to the table. Its Normal Mode too has been hyper incentivized capable of lasting up to 500 days. The tracker is simply for those who integrate it and simply forget and works like a charm. It remains to be seen which all features will be disabled when the Power Saving Mode is turned ON but at least you get an extended battery life to track your belongings.

A Compass View lets you find the location of the tracker, the direction, and the distance using maps on your phone pointing towards the tracker using arrows. The feature works only on UWB-enabled devices which means your car keys won’t be covered but your Samsung Galaxy S Ultra will be. Samsung has worked on the SmartThings app to redefine its user experience.

Galaxy SmartTag 2 is capable of withstanding elements using its IP67 rating. It has a range of 120 meters or 393.7ft which is 6x more than that of the original tracker. It has an “unknown tag alerts” feature that keeps a tab on if a random tracker is following you. It sends you the alert so that you know you are bugged and take some preventive actions.

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 works well with your Samsung account and syncs with other compatible devices using the same account via the SmartThings Find app. It carries a price tag of $30 and will be available globally on October 11.
