Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Vs Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: What has changed in 2024?

8 months ago 72

Samsung has launched the Galaxy S24 Series globally. The flagship series that includes Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is up for pre-order in India. Although the brand claims the top-end Ultra model comes with upgrades over its predecessor, are they enough to make the user spend more bucks? Let us compare what has changed from Galaxy S23 Ultra to Galaxy S24 Ultra to conclude.

Design & Build

The main difference between Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra is its build quality. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a titanium frame similar to iPhone 15 Pro models. This makes the smartphone more durable than Galaxy S23 Ultra and has changed color options as well.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra has narrower bezels than the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the front of the S24 Ultra is not as curved as its predecessor. Although the overall look is similar, the titanium frame has given it a bulkier and boxy look with a flat front panel. The camera sensors at the back are similarly arranged as Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset as opposed to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Performance gets an upgrade as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has got 7051 points on the Geekbench multi-core test as opposed to the AnTuTu score of 5077 for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Storage options remain the same but Samsung has used UFS 4.1 storage instead of UFS 4.0 on Galaxy S23 Ultra. Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with Galaxy AI features as well.

In terms of software, Galaxy S24 Ultra runs One UI 6.0 and will get 7 years of software updates.

Moreover, Samsung has rolled out a host of Galaxy AI features on Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. These include tone tweak, translation during live calls, voice note, background blur and much more.

Display

The display size of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is similar to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel. However, this time refresh rate has been bumped up from 120Hz to 144Hz. Peak brightness has also increased from 1700 nits to 2600 nits.

Battery

Technically the battery and charging speed are the same at 5000mAh and 45W wired fast charging, but the battery will last longer due to the new chipset.

Camera

Although not very huge, but there is an upgrade in the camera department. The main camera is still 200MP along with 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP optical sensor. Instead of a 10MP periscope lens, there is a 50MP periscope camera offering 5x optical zoom.

For selfies, there will still be a 12MP snapper at the front.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is mostly similar to its predecessor with minor updates in some departments like display, camera, and design. The biggest upgrade is in terms of performance as it comes with a brand new chipset while the least upgrade is in the battery department where nothing has changed. The only thing that is a bonus is the Galaxy AI features that have been introduced with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The AI features do make the newly launched smartphone a notch better and smarter than its predecessor but whether are they worth it or not depends on needs of the users.
