Samsung Galaxy S23 Series will debut with Google Fast Pair to discover & setup phones

Last week, we saw how Google will be adding a new feature on Google Fast Pair thanks to the courtesy of 9to5Google. Although the report tipped the functionality, it didn’t have any images associated with them. But luckily, we just got our hands on Google Fast Pair demonstration on how it will discover nearby smartphones thanks to Mishal Rahman. Surprisingly, Samsung Galaxy S23 series will be the first to pick up this feature.

Rahman got his hands on the Google Fast Pair feature to discover smartphones working on a Pixel 7 unit. The feature is built to simplify the setup process on Android devices. It will allow users to transfer Google accounts, settings, and much more from an old phone to a new one or a replacement unit based on how and when they need it.

Google Fast Pair already recognizes buds and Wear OS watches and will soon extend to include tracker tags and styluses. With the latest update coming our way, we can safely say that Google will add the functionality to discover nearby smartphones, pair up with them and transfer required files.

As per the images shared, you would need both the old and the new phone together. First up, an existing phone will get a pop-up using Google Fast Pair in case it discovers a new phone that hasn’t been set up yet. A QR code will appear on the old phone that the new phone will have to scan. A PIN verification or biometric system will be set up to avoid unnecessary and malicious pairing and setup processes.

Although Google will streamline the process, it is not a mystery that OEMs such as Samsung would need additional steps such as triggering the Smart Switch app to continue the steps ahead as usual.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series will be the first phones to get their hands on Google Fast Pair. It includes Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. It is a no-brainer that both Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will get the feature during their initial stage before other models get their hands on it.
