Samsung Free to become Samsung News

Samsung Free arrived with One UI 3 in late 2020 and was first pre-installed in Galaxy S21 flagships. The platform is essentially a competitor to Google Discover, suggesting content to watch, listen, read, and play with a single swipe on the Home screen.

The feature is now getting rebranded to Samsung News. It will focus on news content, as the name suggests, and will ditch the Watch and Play tabs.

Samsung News will allow you to find relevant stories on your phone easily and will only have Read and Listen tabs. Samsung will still offer free content through its TV Plus and Game Launcher apps - they are just moving away from the homescreen pane.

Samsung Free will become Samsung News with version 6.0.1, which will roll out gradually, starting April 18.
