During its third-quarter earnings conference call on October 31, 2023, the South Korean tech giant revealed that it is working to introduce AI technology as a new experience in its smartphones. The company also added that it has plans to offer generative AI capabilities in its smartphones starting in 2024. Per several reports, Samsung is going for on-device generative AI tech without connecting to an external cloud server.

So, instead of sending information to a server and then waiting for a response, Samsung’s upcoming smartphones should be able to process any requests on the device itself. For instance, users might be able to use a service like ChatGPT on-device without the need to be connected to an active internet connection. For this, instead of relying on other language models, Samsung is developing its own generative AI technology.

Rumors suggest that Samsung will debut its generative AI technology on the upcoming Galaxy S24 series, which is supposed to arrive early next year. In one of our previous reports, we mentioned that the Galaxy S24 series in the United States will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The chipset offers 98 percent improved AI performance and can support up to 10B parameters for Generative AI models.

Apple Is Also Working To Add AI Capabilities To Its Apps

However, in 2024, Samsung shouldn’t be the only company with on-device AI features on its smartphones, as Apple and Google are already working on similar abilities. Apple’s iPhone 16 series is said to offer several AI-based features. The iPhone maker is working to integrate AI into its apps and services, like Apple Music, Siri, etc.
