Samsung beats Apple here TOO! 5G update to release by November 2022

Samsung beats Apple in releasing its 5G update for the rest of its devices. Here is all you need to know.

Samsung loves to beat Apple at everything and after some of the cheesy advertisements just ahead of the iPhone 14 launch, its software development team now takes things in its hands. Just as Apple confirms rolling out the software update to release 5G support on all compatible iPhones, Samsung came out with an official statement, saying that it plans to release the 5G compatible software update first. In fact, this is the official statement.

"Samsung has pioneered 5G technology development since 2009 and took the leading role in standardizing 5G technology globally. In India, Samsung has the widest portfolio of 5G devices. We are working closely with our operator partners and are committed to rolling out OTA updates across all our 5G devices by mid-November 2022, enabling Indian consumers to experience 5G seamlessly," says a Samsung India spokesperson.

Samsung beats Apple at 5G update release

Note that Samsung already has a list of phones that support 5G network in India at the moment, albeit a few higher end ones and some midrange models. This year's Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Z series devices can support Airtel's 5G network in India, which is currently under test in select cities.

In contrast, none of Apple's iPhone models support 5G networks, even though the hardware is capable. Apple says that it is testing and validating Airtel as well as Jio's 5G networks for its devices, and a software update due to release in December 2022 should allow users to access 5G services across the country.

In comparison to these two brands, Xiaomi, Poco, Realme, Oppo and Vivo have no such restrictions on their devices. Hence, if you own a 5G compatible smartphone from these brands, you will be able to access both Airtel and Jio's 5G networks, if you have 5G coverage in your city.

Do you Know?

Samsung was the first brand to ship a 5G smartphone to the market back in 2019. It was the Galaxy S10 5G that had the largest display and its fastest 25W charging solution, setting a precedent for the Galaxy S20 Ultra the next year. The Galaxy S10 5G has a 4G-only Snapdragon 855 chip that was mated to an external Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem later in its life.
