Renault’s Plan to Introduce Five New Cars in the Indian Market: Here’s What to Expect

8 months ago 47

In a recent media briefing, Renault laid out its future roadmap for the Indian market through a strategic initiative termed “Renaulution 2024.” The automaker is gearing up to roll out five new products within the next three years, supplementing its substantial €3 billion investment allocated to key international hubs, including India. The lineup includes the next-generation Renault Kiger and Triber, as well as a fresh B+ segment SUV, CSUV, and an electric car tailored for the Indian market. While Renault has divulged details about these upcoming models, specifics regarding the launch timeline remain undisclosed.

Renault Upcoming Cars in India

Renault is gearing up to introduce three new models in the Indian market, which include the Renault Duster, possibly the Arkana, and the Kwid EV. Notably, the Triber and Kiger are slated for a significant generation update. Recent online reports indicate that Renault is poised to launch the revamped Duster in India early next year. Furthermore, there’s speculation about the potential introduction of a C-segment coupe SUV in the Indian lineup.

Alternatively, Renault might consider unveiling a 7-seater version of the Duster, drawing inspiration from the Bigster concept. It’s worth noting that the Duster, based on the CMF-B platform shared with the Arkana, won’t feature a diesel engine in the Indian market. In an interesting move, Renault is also contemplating the launch of robust hybrid cars in India.

Renault has experienced a relative lack of buzz surrounding its product releases lately. The latest addition to its lineup was the Renault Kiger in 2021, essentially Renault’s take on the Nissan Magnite. This sub-4-meter SUV has enjoyed notable success in terms of sales for the brand and currently stands as Renault’s sole SUV available in the Indian market.

The Kiger and Triber are both slated for a next-generation update, signaling Renault’s commitment to revamping its offerings. Interestingly, there are hints of distinct plans for the Kwid in the pipeline. Given the intense competition in the sub-4-meter segment, the anticipated generation update for the Kiger could potentially elevate its popularity in this fiercely contested category. The fate of the next-generation Triber remains uncertain, particularly regarding the possibility of it being equipped with a much-desired turbo petrol engine.

Renault’s top-selling model, the Kwid, has maintained its position as a favorite for several years. A few years back, Renault showcased an emission-free variant of the Kwid at the Auto Expo, which, while available internationally, has yet to make its debut in the Indian market. With the growing popularity of small electric cars in India, Renault is contemplating the development of a locally manufactured electric version of the Kwid.

This move would position the electric Kwid against competitors like the MG Comet, Tata Tiago EV, and Citroen eC3 hatchbacks. Notably, the forthcoming electric car from Renault is expected to achieve around 85-90 percent localization, facilitating a more competitive pricing strategy. There’s even speculation that Renault might price it below Rs 10 lakh, making it an enticing option in the affordable electric car segment.
