Reliance Jio, Airtel could hike tariff plans by Q4 2023

The Indian telecom operators can yet again increase the prices of the tariffs by a whopping 10 percent. The same was first reported by Business Insider India. It simply means that the users will soon be supposed to loosen up their pockets a little bit more to enjoy all the data and calling benefits that they are using as of now. Expectations are that both Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel could announce a 10 percent hike in tariff rates by the Q4 of 2023 and the Financial Year 2025.

According to the report, most of the benefits of the last tariff hike have already flown to the telcos, and their revenue and margins are increasingly under pressure. This clearly makes it necessary for telcos to increase the prices. The main reason behind the same has also been shared in the report. The increasing pressure on revenue, moderate gains, and margins in the ARPU rate can be one of the reasons for this stipulated tariff hike. ARPU rate of Reliance Jio shot up by 0.8 percent, and in the case of Airtel and Vodafone, it increased by 1 percent.

Not only this, but the report also said that Airtel has already started testing the price hike pattern by removing the Rs 99 prepaid plan from multiple telecom circles. The mentioned plan offered 2.5 paise calls and 200MB data. The plan was further relaunched as the Rs 155 plan offered 1GB of data and unlimited calls.

As per Union Minister Devusinh Chauhan, an average of 2,500 base stations per week are being installed by telecom operators to provide 5G services across the country to all users. In the Rajya Sabha, he also said that starting from November 26, 20,980 mobile base stations were installed. Among all of them, Reliance Jio installed 17,687 and Airtel installed 3,293 base stations.
