Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 To Release This Month: Here’s Everything We Know

11 months ago 56

Qualcomm, the company behind the most popular and powerful chipsets for Android phones, is holding a launch event in Hawaii from October 24 to 26. During the Snapdragon Summit 2023, the company will reveal the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, an upgrade on last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which powered top-tier smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, OnePlus 11, iQoo 11 5G, etc. The upcoming processor is tipped to feature a significant performance upgrade.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Scores Over 2 Million On Antutu Benchmark

Per known tipster Digital Chat Station, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored two million points on the Antutu benchmark. In comparison, the phones that run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 max out at 1.5 or 1.6 million points, indicating a giant leap in raw performance. However, it’s not just the CPU that’s behind this surge. The tipster, corroborating previous reports, suggests that the chipset features a new Adreno 750 GPU, which is about 40% more powerful than what we have in the current generation and scores 840K points in the GPU test.

On the other hand, the CPU records a performance boost of 15.7%, scoring 440K points in the test. Overall, the upcoming system-on-chip should provide about 25% better performance than its predecessor, which should unlock a lot of new abilities like high-quality gaming, faster video encryption/decryption, and more processing power for clicking high-resolution photos and videos, as several flagships do.

The Processor Was Tested With Faster LPDDR5T RAM

Along with the faster GPU and CPU, the processor got tested with LPDDR5T RAM, an upgrade over the LPDDR5X RAM supported by the previous generation. However, it is unclear whether phones powered by the processor will ship with the faster and more efficient type of memory or stick with the good old LPDDR5X technology because it still provides faster read/write speeds and has proven stable.

Older reports suggest that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will come with a Cortex-X4 CPU clocked at 3.7GHz. Other cores in the cluster could follow a 2+3+2 approach. At this point, smartphone manufacturers haven’t announced any phones with the unreleased chipset. Still, it is highly likely that the Galaxy S24 Ultra, OnePlus 12, and other high-end phones from Xiaomi and iQoo will feature the processor.
