OpenAI Launches GPT Store For Paid Users: Builder Revenue Program To Roll Out Soon

8 months ago 48

OpenAI launches GPT Store

On Wednesday, OpenAI launched the GPT Store, an online marketplace where users can share their versions of the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT. While the company announced it last year, the launch was delayed due to Sam Altman’s sudden firing (he rejoined the company after about two weeks). Eventually, the GPT Store aims to enable developers to create money from their custom ChatGPT version.

ChatGPT Users Have Already Created Over Three Million GPTs

OpenAI Seeks Trademarks for GPT-6 and GPT-7 in China

Announcing the GPT Store, OpenAI mentioned that “users have already created over three million custom versions of ChatGPT.” The store will feature a diverse range of GPTs. Users can browse through the options as they do on the Play Store or App Store. Further, the store will show popular or trending GPTs on the community leaderboard.

The GPT Store Will Feature Some Impactful GPTs

OpenAI will highlight some useful and impactful GPTs in the store. For now, it has featured six GPTs, including Personalized Trail Recommendations from All Trails, Search And Synthesize Results From 200M Academic Papers with Consensus, Expand Your Coding Skills with Khan Academy’s Code Tutor, Design Presentations or social posts with Canva, etc.

Users Must Have A Builder Profile For Creating A Custom GPT

Users can create and share their own GPT without any coding skills. To do so, they must save their GPT for everyone and verify their Builder Profile. In Q1, OpenAI also plans to launch a GPT builder revenue program. First, builders based in the United States will receive payouts based on user engagement with their GPT.

GPT Store Is Currently Available To Paid Users Only

For now, the GPT Store is only available to paid ChatGPT users; free users don’t have access. On Wednesday, the company also launched a new paid ChatGPT version for small businesses, costing $25 a month per user. This means that ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users can visit the GPT Store, experiment with GPTs created by others, or develop their custom version of the chatbot for others to use.
