Oops! iPhone 14 Plus is finding less buyers; Apple takes drastic step

1 year ago 75

iPhone 14 Plus is witnessing a much lower demand than expected, leading Apple to halt production.

The iPhone 14 hasn't impressed customers and critics, and the same can now be said for the iPhone 14 Plus. Apple's newest addition to the iPhone lineup with a larger display and bigger battery is apparently finding not many takers. As a result, the decision makers in Cupertino have already asked their contract manufacturers to halt production of the iPhone 14 Plus immediately. The company is reassessing the demand and could come out with a new forecast.

Based on a report from The Information, it is said that Apple has reached out to its manufacturers to immediately halt the production of the iPhone 14 Plus, which went on sale only weeks ago. Additionally, it has also asked its component suppliers to lower production by up to 90%. That seems like bad news for Apple. However, the company is also said to ask its component supplier to ramp up production for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

No one wants an iPhone 14 Plus?

Based on all the reports so far, it seems that Apple's strategy to position the standard iPhone 14 models as an iterative variant of last year's iPhone 13 has backfired. Despite all the upgrades, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus seem too conservative in their approach to a high-end smartphone experience.

Starting at Rs. 79,900, the iPhone 14 still uses last year's A15 Bionic chip instead of the A16 Bionic. It also carries on the same dated design with the large display notch, and the display itself sticks to a 60Hz OLED panel. The cameras get mild updates and the battery life is slightly better, but none seem to excite users around the world. The iPhone 14 Plus is just a bigger version of the same phone, starting at Rs. 89,900. It's 6.7-inch display and bigger capacity battery are a big draw but they aren't enough to warrant a buying decision.

Most importantly, Android flagships for the same prices offer much better value. The recently launched Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro offer a much better feature set and newer designs. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series with all the discounts is still a good buy for many. You can even get a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 for the price of the iPhone 14 Plus, which is a more exciting device.

What remains to be seen is whether Apple drops the prices in the coming months to clear its stocks and boost the iPhone 14 sale.
