Only Apple Things! iPhone 15 to have different USB-C port than iPhone 15 Pro!

iPhone 15 series to make use of different USB-C ports for differentiating between standard and Pro models.

The iPhone 15 series will bring the much-awaited USB-C port, say the latest rumours. Apple's move to USB-C could be based on the decision the EU made on having a unified charging port on all mobile devices. As a result, Apple will have to comply with the rules if it wants to sell iPhones in the region. And eventually, the iPhone 15 series is expected to get a USB-C port as standard all across the globe. Apple, however, loves to do Apple things and with the USB-C port, it has similar plans.

The iPhone 15 will get the USB-C port treatment as standard across the entire range but Apple has plans to distinguish the Pro models from the standard ones in this regard too. Reliable tipster Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple is certainly getting rid of the Lightning port from all iPhone 15 models next year. But the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be getting the USB-C port with same data transfer speeds as the Lightning port.

iPhone 15 with two USB-C ports?

On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra will be getting a faster version of the USB-C port. Kuo says that the Pro and Ultra variants will have speeds on par with the USB 3.2 gen or Thunderbolt 3 standards. This should help users get faster download speeds while transferring files from the iPhone to a PC. A faster USB-C port is of bigger help to professional users who deal with transferring large files on a daily basis.

Currently, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are capable of shooting ProRes videos and proRAW photos, but transferring them to a computer takes some while.

Kuo doesn't speak on whether Apple will introduce fast charging on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra. The presence of a faster USB-C port could help Apple deliver faster charging solutions. Will Apple do something about the charging speeds next year?

Other than the USB-C port, rumours suggest that the iPhone 15 range will have the Dynamic Island as standard, but the 1Hz-120Hz ProMotion display will be limited to the Pro variants. A new 3nm A17 chip is expected on the Pro variants, and the iPhone 15 Ultra could feature a new periscope zoom lens setup.
