OnePlus acknowledges 12R Storage Error: Is UFS 3.1 Enough for Power Users?

7 months ago 46

OnePlus 12R has been in the news for the wrong reasons since its debut on the Antutu benchmark test. Contrary to initial announcements, OnePlus 12R’s 128GB and 256GB versions feature UFS 3.1 storage, not UFS 4.0 as indicated during the launch announcement.

The company has updated its website to reflect the accurate storage information. While the OnePlus 12 (review) series boasts UFS 4.0 storage in the OnePlus 12 model, the 12R model will maintain the slightly older UFS 3.1 standard. A debate sparked on Reddit and other forums regarding OnePlus 12R storage when some users posted images of the phone’s 256GB variant also offering read and write speeds similar to UFS 3.1 instead of UFS 4.0 which was advertised in the launch presentation.

Despite the discrepancy, OnePlus assures consumers that the OnePlus 12R will deliver excellent performance, leveraging the new Trinity Engine features introduced at launch. These features promise faster app launches and prolonged app performance, tested extensively with UFS 3.1 storage.

Furthermore, the OnePlus 12R has received full certification from TUV SUD based on its UFS 3.1 memory, ensuring smooth operation over an extended period. OnePlus President and COO, Kinder Liu, acknowledged the error in communications and reiterated the company’s commitment to providing exceptional user experiences with their latest devices.

“I’m excited that so many of you are now starting to receive your OnePlus 12 Series devices and experience all their amazing new features for yourself. I’m writing today to let you know that we have made a mistake in our communications for the OnePlus 12R and to explain what happens next,” said Kinder Liu.

The clarification reassures consumers that while the storage technology may differ from initial expectations, the OnePlus 12R remains a high-performance device equipped to deliver a seamless user experience.
