OnePlus has announced the flagship OnePlus 12 smartphone in China yesterday. The company is planning to bring it to India very soon. Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up to launch the flagship Samsung Galaxy S24 Series devices in mid-January (mostly on January 17). Both these smartphones are flagships from makers and claim to give the best performance in every aspect. Now, the question that arises in front of consumers is whether they should go for the OnePlus 12 or wait for Samsung to drop the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Let’s try to find some answers by analyzing the features of specs of these two premium flagship smartphones.
OnePlus 12 Vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Design & Colors
As expected design-wise OnePlus 12 hasn’t undergone much change since its predecessor. OnePlus 12 comes with some purposeful refinements but otherwise, the design is similar to the OnePlus 11. The alert slider has been moved from right to left to enhance the gaming antenna signal by 3dB and reduce game latency by 15%. The smartphone is available in black, white, and green shades.
As for Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, a major design change that is expected is the move to a titanium body just like the iPhone 15 Pro series a few months ago. Galaxy S23 Ultra might switch to a flatter design in comparison with previous Galaxy models but will keep the same general aesthetics of its predecessors. The S-Pen will still be there. In terms of colors, Galaxy S24 Ultra is said to come in black, gray, violet, and yellow shades. Exclusive colors will be available via Samsung.com, as usual.
In terms of functionality, both the OnePlus 12 and Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a USB Type-C port at the bottom, as well as no audio jacks or micro SD card slots on deck.
Conclusion– considering design, Galaxy S24 Ultra might have an edge if it comes with a titanium body.
OnePlus 12 Vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Display
The recently launched OnePlus 12 sports a 6.82-inch 2K LTPO OLED panel from BOE. It has a peak brightness of 4500 nits and surpasses current industry standards incorporating rainwater touch technology for smooth touch responses in rainy conditions. There is 2160PWM dimming as well.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to feature a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel with 3080×1440 resolution, 500 ppi, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Samsung is also boosting up the brightness this time with peak levels being 2500 nits for Galaxy S24 Ultra. On paper, this might look way less than OnePlus 12 but Samsung’s displays are the best in quality so Samsung’s 2500 nits would give a tough fight to OnePlus’ 4500 nits.
Both devices will have fingerprint scanners and face unlock as well.
Conclusion– Both have bright, high-definition displays but since the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra might have an AMOLED panel its performance is expected to be better.
OnePlus 12 Vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Chipset & OS
OnePlus 12 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset which is the newest and most powerful from the house of Qualcomm. The chipset is paired with up to 24GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB UFS 4.0 onboard storage. It also has a 9140 sq. mm vapor chamber cooling system for top-notch thermal performance. In terms of OS, it will run ColorOS 14 (OxygenOS 14 globally) based on Android 14.
Talking about Galaxy S24 Ultra, it will feature Exynos 2400 as well as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, depending on the region. India might get an Exynos 2400 SoC. Paired with the chipset will have RAM of up to 12GB and storage of up to 1TB. It will run Android 14-based Samsung UI.
Conclusion- OnePlus 12 seems to have an edge due to better RAM and storage models.
OnePlus 12 Vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Camera
OnePlus 12 features a triple camera setup at the back including a 50MP main Sony LYT-808 sensor, along with a 48MP Sony IMX581 ultrawide sensor and a 64MP OmniVision OV64B 3x telephoto periscope lens. At the front is a 32MP selfie camera. OnePlus has continued its partnership with Hasselblad as well.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is getting a major change. Instead of a 10X periscope lens that gave 100x hybrid zoom, Samsung will now opt for a sensible 5.0X telephoto camera. The rest of the camera setup will be the same with a 200MP ISOCELL sensor, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto lens along with the new 5.0X telephoto camera.
Conclusion- There will mostly be a tie in terms of camera performance.
OnePlus 12 Vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Battery & Charging
OnePlus 12 packs a 5400mAh battery under the hood with 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to stick to 5000mAh battery with 45W wired and 15W wireless fast charging.
Conclusion- OnePlus 12 has an edge in terms of battery as well as fast charging speed.
