Nothing Phone (2): Design and Glyph Interface Revealed Ahead of India Launch

1 year ago 63

The much-anticipated design of the Nothing Phone (2) has been officially unveiled, putting an end to weeks of speculation and rumors. Smartprix had previously shared an exclusive first look at Nothing Phone 2, and it has now been confirmed by renowned YouTuber MKBHD. In his video, MKBHD shed light on the new “Glyph Interface” on the back of the phone, which features 33 LED lighting zones controllable by software, a significant improvement from the 12 LEDs on the Phone (1). This enhanced Glyph module allows for more extensive customization options. Additionally, the video showcases the smartphone’s soft-curved edges, a departure from the sharp flat edges seen in the previous Nothing smartphone. This design was previously teased by Nothing.

MKBHD emphasizes that the Glyph Interface is more versatile and customizable compared to the previous model. This year, the LED lights on the Nothing Phone (2) can be personalized according to specific applications. For example, these lights can assist users in tracking their orders on select apps like Zomato and Uber. As the order gets closer to the user’s location, the light gradually fades. This feature draws inspiration from iOS Live Activities, although it operates on the phone’s display. The video also highlights a new Essential Notification setting, allowing users to keep a dedicated LED illuminated based on the notifications from a chosen app until they check it.

Nothing has also been revealed that users can create their own ringtones, as demonstrated in the YouTube video. Furthermore, users can customize the LED lights on the back of the phone to synchronize with the ringtone. However, the LED lights are currently limited to white, with no option to change the color.

In terms of design, there are no significant deviations between the Nothing Phone (1) and the Phone (2), except for the enhanced customizability of the Glyph module. Nothing has confirmed that the new smartphone incorporates more recycled materials and features a taller display. The battery size has been increased to 4,700mAh from 4,500mAh, while the charging technology remains relatively unchanged. Another notable highlight of the smartphone is the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a significant upgrade from the first-generation model. While Nothing has not provided details about the camera or performance, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC unlocks a range of capabilities, promising improved video quality and enhanced battery performance.
