New WhatsApp Features In Development: Channel Forwarding And Filter For Status Updates

9 months ago 69

In the last couple of days, the Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has been experimenting with several features. Usually, most of them make it to a stable app version, but even if they don’t make it immediately, they are rolled out eventually. WhatsApp updates tracker, WABetaInfo, keeps a record of all these features. Here’s every new feature WhatsApp is working on or rolling out to users.

WhatsApp Send As Document Feature Rolling Out For iOS Users

WhatsApp send as document for iOS

According to a report published on December 4, 2023, WhatsApp is rolling out the “Send as a document” feature for media files on iOS to everyone. The build number 23.24.73 is marked as compatible and available as a stable update on the App Store.

It allows iPhone users to send media files as documents, surpassing the compressions WhatsApp puts them through, retaining their original quality and detail. The update also provides the ability to start voice chats without ringing everyone in large groups and shows new chat bubbles to remind users about something they might have missed.

WhatsApp Channel Forwarding Feature Is Under Development

Per a report published today, the messaging platform is also working on a feature called Channel Forwarding (spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.26.2). As the name suggests, the feature will allow channel owners to forward supported messages from other chats on the app to channels. The messages users can forward include text, images, videos, audio notes, GIFs, etc. This will allow channel owners to send messages they deem fit to their channels without drafting them from scratch.

WhatsApp Is Also Working On Filters For Status Updates

The most recent update from WABetaInfo is about another feature called “Filters for status updates.” The feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.25.10.71. It showcases the status updates put up by other users in three ways. To access, beta testers must tap the three-dot icon at the upper right corner of the Updates tab and select All, Recent, Viewed, or Muted.

The first filter showcases all status updates, while the second and third show the ones uploaded recently and the ones users have already viewed, respectively. The last option shows muted status updates, which aren’t visible otherwise. The two features in development should be released soon for all WhatsApp users.
