Home Mobile News Motorola to steal Apple’s limelight, plans to “Edge” out iPhone 14 series

Motorola to make announcements regarding new Edge series smartphones on September 8, just a day after Apple’s rumoured launch event.

Motorola plans to steal the limelight from Apple following the latter's rumoured launch event on September 9. The company has announced its big flagship launch event to be held on September 8. While Motorola does not reveal the names of the phones, it is expected that we could be seeing the Motorola X30 Pro and S30 Pro phones in India. In fact, the teaser confirms three new Motorola Edge series smartphones making their way to the Indian market.

Motorola recently announced three new smartphones in the Chinese market, two of which are the Motorola X30 Pro and Motorola S30 Pro. The third handset is the Motorola Razr 2022, which is unlikely to find its way to India anytime soon. Hence, we expect a successor to the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion from last year, which could be the entry-level offering into the Motorola Edge series phones.

While we are yet to have any idea about what phones does Motorola plan to bring to the table, one of the possible candidates seems to be the X30 Pro, which is currently the only smartphone in the world to feature a 200MP rear camera sensor. This phone also features a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP telephoto camera. The front camera is managed by a 60MP sensor.

Expected to be called the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, the X30 Pro could also help Motorola launch its first phone with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip – a chip that is limited to a few phones in India at the moment. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 has proven itself to be far superior in terms of power and thermal efficiency in phones such as the iQOO 9T, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The X30 Pro also comes with a large 6.7-inch FHD+ pOLED display with curved edges, minimal bezels, and a refresh rate of 144Hz. While the 4500mAh battery may not seem big enough by today's flagship standards, the phone could debut Motorola's fastest 125W wired charging solution. It could also get 50W wireless charging.

The Motorola S30 Pro could come in as a more affordable offering, having a Snapdragon 888+ chip, a 50MP + 13MP + 2MP rear camera setup, a 6.5-inch FHD+ Curved OLED display, and support for 68W fast charging.
