1 year ago 88

Microsoft is gearing up to give its Xbox Series X refresh console – a major facelift in 2024, with an eye-catching design and enhanced features, according to recently leaked documents filed as part of the FTC v. Microsoft case.

The next-generation Xbox Series X, codenamed “Brooklin,” will usher in a fresh look, departing from the current form factor. The most noticeable change is its cylindrical design, a departure from the boxy aesthetic of its predecessor. In a move toward an all-digital future, the new Xbox Series X will come without a disc drive, reflecting the industry’s ongoing shift toward digital game distribution.

2024 XBox Series X BROOKLIN – What To Expect

Storage Boost

Internal documents reveal that the Xbox Series X Brooklin will boast a substantial increase in storage capacity, doubling from 1TB to 2TB. This enhancement ensures that gamers will have more room to store their favorite titles and media.

Enhanced Connectivity

The new console will feature a USB-C front port with power delivery, offering versatile connectivity options for peripherals and accessories.

Revamped Controller

Alongside the Brooklin console, Microsoft will introduce a new controller, codenamed “Sebille.” This innovative controller is set to be unveiled later this year and promises a range of exciting features. Notably, it will include an accelerometer for gyro support, enhancing gaming precision. The controller will adopt a distinctive two-tone color scheme and support a direct connection to the cloud, Bluetooth 5.2, and an updated “Xbox Wireless 2” connection. Other notable features include “precision haptic feedback” and “VCA haptics double as speakers.” The controller will also offer quieter buttons and thumbsticks, a rechargeable and swappable battery, modular thumbsticks, and the ability to wake it up by lifting it.

Wi-Fi 6E Support

Microsoft is bringing Wi-Fi 6E support to the new Xbox Series X, ensuring faster and more stable wireless connections for online gaming and streaming.

Efficiency Improvements

To enhance efficiency, Microsoft is shrinking the existing die to 6nm, which will contribute to energy savings. The PSU (power supply unit) power will be reduced by 15 percent, aligning with Microsoft’s commitment to sustainability.

Despite these enhancements and innovations, Microsoft is reportedly aiming to maintain the Xbox Series X’s launch price at $499, ensuring accessibility for gamers.

Roadmap and Future Plans

The leaked documents also outline Microsoft’s future plans, which include a refreshed Xbox Series S with 1TB of storage. While Microsoft recently launched a refreshed Xbox Series S in black, another update is reportedly planned for 2024, featuring Wi-Fi 6E support and Bluetooth 5.2. This new Xbox Series S will also ship with the redesigned “Sebille” controller.

Furthermore, the leaked documents mention Microsoft’s aspirations for console customization through the Xbox Design Lab program, although full funding for this project has not yet been confirmed. The documents also allude to a new Elite controller in the pipeline, expected to incorporate the same updates and enhancements as the primary controller refresh.

Microsoft tentatively plans to launch the new Xbox Series S refresh in September, with the Xbox Series X Brooklin refresh set for a November release, adding more excitement to the gaming world’s calendar for 2024.
