Microsoft’s ChatGPT-powered Bing search and Edge browsers released

1 year ago 72

The ‘new’ Bing search engine and Edge web browser from Microsoft are underpinned by the most advanced language model from OpenAI ever, which is more potent than ChatGPT. The news was released a day after Google unveiled Bard, a self-described “experimental conversational AI service” that uses Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA).

Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president & consumer chief marketing officer, said, “To empower people to unlock the joy of discovery, feel the wonder of creation, and better harness the world’s knowledge, today we’re improving how the world benefits from the web by reinventing the tools billions of people use every day, the search engine and the browser.”

A restricted preview of the AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge browser is currently available at Bing.com, and it will “extend to millions soon.” Visit Bing.com to test out sample searches and join the queue for free. “In the upcoming weeks, we’ll scale the preview to millions of users. Soon, a mobile experience will also be available for preview “Microsoft proclaimed.

In order to give better search, more thorough answers, a new chat experience, and the capacity to develop content, Microsoft is referring to the new Bing and Edge as users’ AI copilot for the web.

The biggest software sector of them all, search, will be dramatically altered by AI. To help people get more out of search and the web, we’re unveiling Bing and Edge powered by AI copilot and chat today, said Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO of Microsoft.

What’s new with Edge and Bing

  1. Upgraded search: According to Microsoft, users will receive “an improved version of the familiar search experience” with the new Bing. According to the company, the search engine would offer more thorough responses in a new sidebar for simple queries like sports scores, stock prices, and weather.
  2. Detailed responses: Bing will look through web search results to discover and summarize the solution, just like Google did in the case of Bard.
  3. New chat experience: The new Bing will offer new, interactive conversations for difficult searches, including organizing a thorough trip itinerary or deciding what TV to buy.
  4. According to the firm, “the chat experience empowers you to refine your search until you find the comprehensive answer you are looking for by asking for more details, clarification, and ideas – with links available so you can quickly act on your decisions.”
  5. In addition to these, people can create content using the new Bing. It can draft emails, prepare you for interviews, or make a trivia night quiz.

The updated Bing will also list all of its references, enabling users to access the web pages it uses as references.
