MG’s Comet EV Accelerates with Fast Charging, ZS EV Embraces Affordable Luxury with Panoramic Sunroof

6 months ago 58

MG Motor India has once again restructured its model lineup, introducing new variants for both the Comet EV and the ZS EV. The recent announcement brings two significant updates. Firstly, the MG Comet EV now features fast charging capability. With the launch of two additional variants – Excite FC and Exclusive FC – based on the mid- and top-spec trims, respectively, the Comet EV is now compatible with a 7.4 kW charger, a notable improvement from its previous compatibility limited to a 3.3 kW home charging cable.

Price

Another notable change is the introduction of a new variant for the ZS EV, named Excite Pro, featuring a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and priced at Rs. 19.98 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This makes the ZS EV the first electric vehicle priced under Rs. 20 lakh to offer a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. Meanwhile, in the Comet EV lineup, the Excite FC and Exclusive FC trims are priced at Rs. 8.24 lakh and Rs. 9.14 lakh (ex-showroom, India) respectively.

In discussing the updates, Gaurav Gupta, Deputy Managing Director of MG Motor India, expressed the company’s commitment to ongoing innovation and delivering compelling products with attractive value propositions to customers. He highlighted that the introduction of new variants for their EVs, the MG ZS and Comet, stems from careful consideration of customer feedback, market insights, and industry analysis. Gupta emphasized MG’s focus on not only product development but also on building EV awareness and establishing a robust EV ecosystem to enhance the convenience and accessibility of EV usage.

Apart from AC fast charging, the new variants of the Comet EV offer additional comfort features. These include an electronic parking brake, electronic stability control, rear disc brake, hill-hold control, power foldable ORVM, turn indicator integrated DRL, Creep mode, and body-colored ORVM. Despite maintaining its range at 230 km, the Comet EV now boasts quicker charging times.

Battery and Charging

With a 7.4 kW AC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 0 to 100 percent in just 3.5 hours, a significant improvement over the previous 7-hour charge time with the 3.3 kW home charger. MG claims a charge time of 2.8 hours for charging from 0 to 80 percent and 2.5 hours for charging from 10 to 80 percent.
