Meta Announces AI Stickers For WhatsApp: Everything You Need To Know

11 months ago 61

Meta owns many messaging and social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram. These apps enable billions of users around the world to connect and communicate with each other. Apart from text messaging, these platforms also let users send stickers, providing a fun way to convey emotions and feelings. To make sending stickers even more interesting, Meta has launched AI stickers for all its platforms, allowing users to create their stickers using generative AI.

WhatsApp Gets Generative AI For Creating Stickers

With AI stickers, users can “effortlessly generate customized stickers” for their chats and stories. To create stickers, Meta relies on Llama 2 and Emu, which facilitate text-to-image generation within seconds. The new feature will roll out to select English-language users on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook Stories over the next month. When writing the report, the feature isn’t available on the app’s latest iOS 17 and Android 13 versions in India; it should roll out soon.

Create Your Own Stickers On WhatsApp

  1. To create an AI sticker on WhatsApp, open a chat and tap the emoji icon at the bottom right corner.
  2. Then select the turning page icon to the right of the menu bar. Next, hit “Create” and tap “Continue” if prompted.
  3. Enter a clear description of the sticker in a few words.
  4. The app will generate up to four versions of the sticker. Further, users can edit their descriptions and generate more variations.
  5. Once done, tap on a sticker to send it in chat. While these steps apply to WhatsApp on Android, they should be similar on WhatsApp for iOS.

Users can also mark a sticker as favorite. To do this, they should tap and hold on a sticker in a chat and select “Add to favorites.” Similarly, one can report an AI-generated sticker on WhatsApp or any other Meta platform. Users simply need to tap and hold on a sticker, hit the three-dot icon, and then select Report > Report. While we’ve referred to WhatsApp’s support pages for these details, some steps could vary when the feature comes out.
