The issue was first flagged in late 2022 when the automaker received reports from customers detailing various warning messages cropping up during vehicle operation.

The recall advisory underscores the potential severity of the situation, cautioning that if the ground cable remains inadequately fastened, it could lead to heightened electrical resistance and subsequent heat buildup at the connection point, heightening the risk of a fire outbreak.
Drivers are alerted that any vehicle experiencing a 48-volt system error arising from this particular fault may trigger warning messages related to the 48-volt onboard power supply, prominently displayed within the instrument cluster. With safety at the forefront, Mercedes-Benz urges affected vehicle owners to promptly address this recall to mitigate any potential safety hazards associated with the 48-volt battery system.
A total of 12,191 vehicles have been flagged in this recall, encompassing models spanning from 2021 to 2023, including the CLS 450, E 450, E450 All-Terrain, AMG CLS 53, AMG E53, AMG GT 43, and AMG GT 53. These vehicles were manufactured between October 21, 2021, and April 4, 2023.
While Mercedes-Benz has received three field reports between September and December 2022 detailing the issue, fortunately, there have been no reports of property damage, fatalities, or injuries associated with this concern. Nevertheless, the recall serves as a precautionary measure to address the potential fire risk posed by the faulty 48-volt ground connection. Owners of affected vehicles are urged to heed the recall notice promptly to ensure the safety and integrity of their vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz dealers were notified of the recall on February 16, 2024, with owners to be alerted by April 9. The fix involves checking and tightening the 48-volt ground connection bolt torque.
