The Korean tech giant LG showcased an actual, see-through television at the CES 2024. Although companies have come up with similar devices every year, customers should be able to buy the LG transparent TV, touted as the OLED Signature T, later this year. Although the company hasn’t revealed the price, there’s a good chance it will debut with a luxurious price tag.

In terms of specifications, the LG OLED Signature T features a 77-inch 4K OLED, see-through panel. Users can switch between transparent and regular TV modes to control the light passing through the screen. The transparent OLED panel can be used as a digital canvas for showcasing artwork, videos, or photos with the Always-On functionality. As seen in the available demo videos, the pictures appear as if they are floating in the air.

Users Must Switch To Regular TV Mode For Watching 4K Videos

However, “to take full advantage of LG OLED’s enhanced picture quality,” users must raise the contrast screen. The LG Signature OLED T comes with the Zero Connect Box, which leverages wireless transmission to send 4K images/sound to the television unit (from a distance of under 30 feet). Further, it also enables users to place their TV anywhere without wondering about the length of the video and audio cables.

The device is powered by LG’s new Alpha 11 processor with four times better AI performance, 70 percent improved graphic performance, and a 30 percent faster processing speed than its predecessor. As showcased by LG, the TV runs on a custom webOS interface, which appears less cluttered than the version found on regular smart TVs.

LG also emphasizes that users can place the TV anywhere, like “in the middle of the room” or “against the window, without blocking the view outside. That said, the real question that arises is who would purchase these TVs and for what purpose. Several reports state that the television mode with the raised contrast screen isn’t as good as that on mainstream models.

The Price And Availibility Are Yet To Be Disclosed

Further, the transparency will add a lot to the cost of this product. Hence, whether it will become another decor item in some users’ apartments or a functional television set is yet to unfold. The company intends to ship the product this year itself. However, it still needs to unveil a timeline for the same.
