Leaked Fairphone 5 Renders Gives Exclusive Look Ahead of Launch

It will be two years since Fairphone 4 arrived and it’s time to see a successor, right? Turns out the smartphone maker is onto the same with the upcoming Fairphone 5 launching soon and we have some official renders to have a glance at.

Fairphone hasn’t shared any specs yet although the official renders give out almost everything about the cosmetic changes and a few things here and there. By the looks of it, the upcoming Fairphone 5 will bring thinner bezels onboard. It is likely to be an LCD panel given the fact that the fingerprint scanner is on the side but a thinner bezel isn’t that bad, right? There’s also repositioning of the front camera which has shifted its base from a waterdrop notch (on FP4) to a punch-hole cut-out on the center. Again, the specifics remain unavailable at the time of writing this.

Flip the phone and you got some changes here as well. The renders still show the same rear camera positioning, however, the back panel shows a ginormous cutout for the trio instead of individual cut-outs for the triple camera. There’s a primary, an ultrawide, and a 3D ToF sensor at the back but again, the camera specs for Fairphone 5 aren’t available.

Fairphone 5 is way ahead of EU 2027 targets. There’s a user-replaceable battery onboard that you can insert and remove at your convenience. It’s great for the user and environment instead of spending tonnes uprooting the back panel jammed with an adhesive. In fact, the phone isn’t glued at all which makes it live as per its USP of sustainability.

Fairphone 5 will get five major Android upgrades as well as 5 years of security updates. For context, it is great in the Android spectrum as it will keep the phone updated for half a decade. MicroSD card slots and SIM card slots have been repositioned to the back of the battery making it difficult for hot-swapping but hey, it’s not even a pinch of hassle than the traditional smartphones we have at the moment.

The phone will bring up two new color options and looks pretty good with a more than enough 6.3” display that we have seen with Galaxy S21+.

According to the folks at Android Authority, Fairphone 5 will get a significant upgrade over the two years old Fairphone 4. For context, the Fairphone 4 had a Snapdragon 750G SoC, 6/8GB RAM, and 128/256GB of storage. There’s NFC and a 3905mAh battery onboard as well. Speculations have it that the upcoming Fairphone 5 will bring on a 8-series SoC although exactly which one remains to be seen.
