Sam Altman has officially returned to his position as the CEO of OpenAI. Last week, the company said that Altman had agreed in principle to return to the company. The deal has gone through, and he is back at the firm where he was fired from recently.

Here’s What Sam Altman Says On His Return

Will sam altman return to OpenAI

As reported by The Verge, Altman writes in a memo that he has never been more excited “about the future.” He adds that he is grateful for everyone’s hard work during the tough times, and the company’s resilience sets it apart in the industry. Altman also thanks several people in his memo, including the two interim CEOs, Mira Murati and Emmett Shear.

Going forward, OpenAI’s three priorities remain to advance its research plan and invest in full-stack safety efforts, improve and deploy products and services to its customers, and build out a board of diverse perspectives to better the company’s governance structure.

Microsoft Finally Has A Seat On The Board

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella

OpenAI’s new board consists of Bret Taylor as the chairperson, Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo, the holdout from the previous board. Contrary to recent reports, OpenAI has also added Microsoft to its board. However, the largest investor doesn’t have a voting seat. Instead, the Nadella-led company has a “non-voting observer” seat on OpenAI’s board, implying that it can’t be a part of the major decisions.

Previously, Microsoft was blindsided by the board’s decision to fire Altman and, hence, expressed its desire to be a part of the board to monitor the developments closely. However, it is unclear who from Microsoft will take this seat.

What’s great is that even though the management was going through such turmoil, OpenAI’s start product, ChatGPT, has retained its customers. In fact, the AI chatbot dropped a major feature, enabling users to interact with it using their voice.
