Known for its ‘I Quest On and On’ mantra, iQOO is gearing up to be the first brand to introduce Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in its flagship phone. Renowned for its focus on performance and gaming-centric enhancements, iQOO is now turning the spotlight on the camera capabilities of its upcoming flagship.

In anticipation of the iQOO 12 launch, the company generously provided an exclusive preview of the iQOO 12 cameras, granting unrestricted access for a comprehensive exploration. In this post, we will share our firsthand experience with the camera, including a selection of camera samples.

Let’s talk about Camera hardware first

The iQOO 12 boasts a formidable triple camera setup, spearheaded by a 50-megapixel camera featuring phase detection autofocus (PDAF), optical image stabilization (OIS), and an f/1.7 aperture. Complementing this, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.0 aperture adds versatility. The device also incorporates a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, PDAF, OIS, and an f/2.6 aperture, capable of an impressive 100X digital zoom. Introducing an Astro mode for night sky enthusiasts, iQOO is keen on showcasing the diverse capabilities of its camera setup.

During a recent excursion to Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India, we had the opportunity to extensively test the iQOO 12 cameras. On a cloudy day condition, the main camera managed to capture sharp photos with natural colors, avoiding the excessive saturation that we see in some premium phones. The shutter response was instantaneous, demonstrating no focus-hunting issues.

The 64MP periscope telephoto camera showcased its prowess by capturing stunning images at various magnifications. The bokeh effect was accurate, preserving subject edges without distortion. While there was a subtle shift in color tones between zoom levels, iQOO assured that a software update before the launch would address this issue.
