iPhone with USB-C: Apple confirms it but will it be the iPhone 15?

iPhones with USB-C ports: Apple confirms such an iPhone is in the works but no idea on when it will debut.

iPhone with a USB-C port! That is happening soon, confirms Apple. In a statement given to the media by Apple Marketing Chief Greg Joswiak, he says that Apple has to comply with the European Union law to switch the iPhone to a USB-C port. Joswiak said that Apple will comply with the law, just as it does with other laws elsewhere. Sadly, he did not specify which of the iPhone models will get the USB-C treatment first.

Joswiak eventually went on to say that Apple and the EU have been long at odds for the charger debate. He said that the EU eventually wanted Apple to adopt micro USB port on the iPhone. He went on to say that neither the Lightning port nor the USB-C port would have happened if Apple had made the change back then.

USB-C on the iPhone: Will it come on iPhone 15?

Another report from Bloomberg says that Apple is willing to make the move to USB-C by 2023, and the laws will go into effect from 2024. It is expected that all the iPhones expected to launch next year may get the USB-C port. This means the iPhone 15 series could jump to USB-C, just like this year's iPad 10th Gen. If the iPhone SE 4th Gen launches, it could also be the first iPhone to come with a USB-C Port.

The presence of the USB-C port could be big for the iPhone. The phone will be now compatible universally with the USB-C chargers that Android phones and Windows laptops use. It could also make it compatible with USB-C accessories.

What remains to be seen is whether the older iPhone models get the USB-C treatment. Despite the iPhone 15 in full focus, Apple could continue to sell the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 as more affordable options. Will Apple re-engineer these old models with USB-C port to continue selling them at affordable prices? Or, will Apple discontinue these models and focus on only the iPhone 15 series? And what happens to the Apple iPhone SE 3rd Gen, which is currently the most affordable 5G iPhone to buy?

On the other hand, the entire iPad lineup has moved on to the USB-C port, with the exception of the iPad 9th Gen with its Lightning port. The entire Mac lineup also uses the USB-C port as standard.
