iPhone throwback: Apple brought Touch ID with the launch of iPhone 5s in 2013. What can the iPhone 14 series bring? Check details.

Why are people eagerly waiting for the launch of the iPhone 14? What has made the iPhone popular and one of the most preferred phones to use? It is the innovation Apple has made with its iPhone launches right from the very first model launched in the year 2007. From dropping the physical keyboard, introducing a single home button, grid of icons, GPS navigation, to a lot more, Apple has tried to offer something new with almost every iPhone it has launched to date. And now with the iPhone 14 series launch likely at the Far Out event on September 7, expectations are soaring. The phone is said to bring always on display, and several other features. But, before its launch, we have something interesting to share. It's about how Apple upgraded the level of security of accessing phones by offering a modern-day fingerprint scanner (Touch ID) to the world of tech with the iPhone 5s!

iPhone 5s: What this 2013 flagship brought

How do you prefer unlocking your phone? Via fingerprint or password? In today's era when privacy and security are one of the most important concerns, do you know who brought the fingerprint scanner into existence? Launched in 2013, alongside iPhone 5C, the iPhone 5s had a lot to offer -- it introduced the Touch ID sensor. This changed the way we unlocked our phones.

Though, preferring to stick to the iPhone 5 design, the most exciting thing iPhone 5s did was place a fingerprint scanner (Touch ID) on the home button. Apple made it very easy for users to access the phone by simply using their finger impressions, thus increasing security and reducing unauthorized and unwanted access.

The Touch ID could also be used to authenticate App Store and iTunes Store purchases. After the introduction of Touch ID, several Android smartphone companies, including Samsung, brought the feature to their flagship phones. And today, you get a fingerprint scanner even on the most affordable smartphones in the market.

iPhone 5s also introduced the A7 chip with 64-bit architecture, the first 64-bit processor to be used on a smartphone, along with the M7 motion coprocessor. It also came with iOS 7 giving the iPhone a flatter, cleaner, and colourful look. The 5s also became the first iPhone to support six iOS updates- from iOS 7 to iOS 12.

Because of iOS 7, iPhone 5s users were able to capture fast continuous shots and record slow-motion videos, making it the first iPhone to be able to do that. However, Apple discontinued the iPhone 5s in the year 2016 and replaced it with the first-generation iPhone SE -- an updated iPhone 5s with a slightly refined design and the faster A9 chip from the iPhone 6s.

Now with the upcoming launch of the iPhone 14 series, it will be worth seeing what new features Apple will bring.
